    Summer Holiday Fun

For 3 weeks spanning July and August we had the amazing privilege of hanging out with over 300 5-16 year olds and having loads of summer fun.

With thanks to our funders, Children In Need, we were able to put on activities including art, drama, cooking, music, science, sport and 1-2-1 reading sessions as well as lots of outings and adventures.

Some of our wider YMCA Bedfordshire staff were able to get involved over the holidays and see up close the work done by F4YP.

It was amazing to help out for the morning with the climbing wall one week. said Paul our Marketing and Fundraising Officer. Whether it was watching some of the mini“s and juniors face their fears by climbing to the top of the wall or even just getting both feet off the ground they were all so amazing and loved every minute of their time. Helping out really showed me the vital work F4YP do in creating a safe and fun space to learn and grow soft skills such as confidence and team work. I hope I get to help out for longer next year!

One area that went down well with the young people was the literacy work undertaken in partnership The Betjeman Poetry Prize. Poet Paul Lyalls joined the F4YP team to run poetry workshops during our Juniors Sports Power course. Paul inspired and engaged our young people into creating some beautiful poetry and performing their work at the end of the week. As well as this, our young poets were able to enter this years Betjeman Poetry Prize competition, with one of the entrants being selected from 1000s of other entrants to be in the top 50 and published anthology. His work, along with the 50 others chosen, will now be assessed by a panel and the top 6 will be taken on a writing camp. We wish Donte the best of luck. Paul also chose his poet of the week from each of the 6 groups and they received a signed copy of his book.

    The world

    The world is finding something

that you didn’t know was there.

    The world is

a command that you must do.

The world is life and love that’s special.

It is a place that is yet to come

    and it’s always

    a mystery in your mind.
