YMCA Bedfordshire

The Tale of Capita and the Ivy

In a land not so far, far away stood an old and neglected garden. Home only to weeds and the odd bit of wildlife, it sat abandoned behind its fortification, an ivy clad fence. That is until one rainy Wednesday in September when the merriest of bands came along to rescue it.

The Tale of Capita and the Ivy

Capita have long been one of our faithful corporate partners, sending teams of keen volunteers to help us with our landscape maintenance. We are always so indebted to them and the hard work they do for us.

“It’s really great having Capita support us” said Andrew Wilkins Maintenance Manager “The work they undertake helps us improve the garden for the enjoyment of the residents”

The day started well weather wise. However the first hour of that was spent indoors learning a little more about YMCA Bedfordshire and our services. By the time we were booted and prepped it wasn’t long till the rain started; however all those involved decided to carry on regardless.

“I think it’s fair to say that despite the weather the team enjoyed helping to clear the vegetable beds and removing years’ worth of ivy growth!!” said Jason, Team Leader  “Paul from YMCA Bedfordshire also gave us a great insight into the work that the YMCA do and the increasing pressures (funding and social) that they are facing.”

Here’s what others on the team had to say ..

“Volunteering at YMCA was a great experience that not even the rain could dampen! Learning more about what they do during the day made it feel even more worthwhile to be supporting them.” Paolo

“It was really an enjoyable day! It was a wonderful experience to meet Paul and his team and also to get a briefing on YMCA and its key projects. Clearing the garden fence was the most challenging task for the day. However, our hardworking and enthusiastic team managed to make the task easily achievable, making this dull rainy day a cheerful one. Paul’s presence and support throughout the day was very much appreciated and his contribution on the ground is also remarkable. I very much enjoyed the day and was really proud to be part of this volunteering team.” Ramdas

And so the once sad garden found itself transformed, its ivy glad fortification banished. It now sits excitedly awaiting its new plantings thanks to Capita’s kind financial donation.

Thank you Capita for supporting our work, we really do appreciate you.
